I received a defective keyboard, as the replacement works just fine as a basic keyboard for my Raspberry Pi 3 using RASPIAN PIXEL out of the box. The function keys don’t appear to work out of the box on a basic PIXEL install, but that’s fine; it’d be a nice bonus but certainly neither expected nor anything I’d deduct a star for.It’s quite light, and pretty easy to type on for a keyboard of that size. The light does turn off after a few seconds, but it comes back on when you start using the keyboard. The delay I experienced previously, and the shutting off after a few seconds, is not present in the second one. The first one, the one with the problem, was received in a brown box. The second one, which is working fine, came in a white and grey box with a cellophane window on the front of the package. While the brown box looks nice and is evocative of quality, and the white/grey box seems cheap, the keyboards appear identical and are attractive in their own right. It looks very much like brushed black anodized aluminum, but they are actually plastic yet they don’t feel flimsy nor cheaply made. The backlighting has several options, not just the three primary colors, and are very nice.At $20, I’d be pleased with the purchase for a tablet or for a home entertainment center that didn’t need a mouse or touchpad. For my Raspberry Pi project, it’s not quite what I need (frankly it’s too easy to steal) but it does work for its basic functions on it just fine.ARTECK has fantastic customer service, which solidly placed the new keyboard in 5-star territory. They care about the product and the feedback they receive. On their own they replaced the keyboard immediately after seeing my first review without waiting for a replacement.I cannot comment on the battery life, but other keyboards I have had with this type have had battery lives measured – at a minimum – of several hours if not days, and standby batteries of months on end. I do expect the same of this keyboard even with the backlight since the backlight does turn off quickly.[Previous UPDATE: added a star for customer service. I don’t think bilingual typing is as easy as the Google Gboard virtual keyboard because of the diacritical marks and accents. The first time I stumbled about a bit trying to figure out how to do type in a different language more easily. I will have to make sticky notes with directions for myself because it’s easy to forget, using Windows methods and I was a long-time Mac user. I think I would have preferred the Android method of long pressing keys to access symbols. It’s another thing to get used to and doesn’t make this keyboard a bad product at all.This keyboard paired easily with my phone out of the box. The instructions were easy to follow. I like the different backlight colors. It’s a nice touch and for those that aren’t touch typist’s should make it easier to use in low lighting or in the dark. The “f” and “j” Keys have a little bump at the bottom so you know where to place your fingers. The function keys at the top will be they keys most difficult to see in the dark because some of those icons are very small.I do not recommend eating around this keyboard. The backlighting leaves enough of a gap under each and every keyboard that you will spend a lot of time cleaning crumbs out.If you plan to carry the keyboard about, I would keep the box it came in or get a case to protect it. It’s lightweight and made in China. At this price, if it lasts the entire 2 year manufacturer’s warranty period, it is a good bargain because the alternative is spending too much time trying to type on the virtual keyboard of my smartphone. That wasn’t working for me. It’s cordless and since already paired, just has to be turned on to use each time without hassle.I also like that I can use it on other Android devices as well as Windows and iOS if the occasion should arrise. This review was made much quicker with this keyboard and I haven’t come across apps that have a problem with a physical keyboard so I guess the system takes care of that.”

I’m a software engineer and while I have a primary work laptop, I do occasionally use other devices for things I can quickly do. This can include light dev work, answering emails, taking meetings, or even multitasking with all 3, which I recently had to do and found surprisingly joyous with this mini setup.- Gaming. To be specific, I mean what is essentially the full gamut of what’s possible on Android. This includes native games like Diablo Immortal and the recently released Destiny, emulators up through the Wii era, where I’m currently replaying Wind Waker and trying to get PS3 titles past the intro screen, and finally full Windows titles streamed through GeForce Now and Steam (replaying CP2077 as corpo, GW2, and usually a couple rotating titles).- Casual usage. This is just standard stuff like web browsing or even writing this actual review.Must haves:- Fn-lock, which I found is activated by using the Fn+Del key combo. This was non-negotiable for me. Media keys are nice and all but I need my standard F1-F12 if I’m treating this setup like a laptop. Not to mention, since I’m using this with an actual smartphone, the volume rocker and touchscreen are almost literally a pinky’s distance away so having dedicated controls on the keyboard was very unimportant.- Backlit keys. The 3 levels of brightness (4 if you include turning it off) is a bonus. Could I have lived without backlit keys, yes of course. But in 2025, come on. I’ve seen Bluetooth earbud cases with cycling RGB LEDs, which, while visually cool and I would absolutely plop down the money for one, is basically pointless. Backlighting a keyboard, even one this small, should just be a given and I’m glad it is in this keyboard.- A built-in stand. Given that what I’m going for is a mini laptop, I wanted as few separate parts as possible. I have my mouse and headphones, which is pretty standard kit, and my “screen” is my phone so it goes in my pocket. That leaves the focal point that your body is facing in a standard computer setup, i.e. where the keyboard and monitor are. I bought the original Microsoft Surface Pro years ago, and the way that worked with a keyboard is ultimately very similar to this mini laptop setup. The keyboard snaps onto the main laptop part, but unless it’s placed on top of something (a desk, your lap, etc) it just hangs lazily because it has no solid hinge with the screen outside of the magnetic attachment. The Surface was large and heavy, though, so shuttling it around was awkward. This keyboard is small and light so it’s very easy to just fold it up, move to where I want to go, then unfold.- A rational, sane, key layout. I have looked at several of these tiny keyboards and one thing that kept striking me was the ridiculous choice for where certain keys should go. Some keys were utterly overloaded with their standard usage, the modified Shift usage, and then an Fn modified usage beyond that. I think in a lot of cases, these choices were done to mimic as much of a 100% keyboard as possible. But, I personally don’t think that is worth having to relearn decades of finger memory. Surely, keys like quotation, slash, and question mark have earned their spot on the keyboard without needing to be modified with some Fn combo. Mercifully, this keyboard puts all those needed keys exactly where they should be without any fuss. Not to mention Android recognizes long presses on this keyboard as it normally would and when appropriate, so it’s easy to get to accented characters.Nice-to-haves:- 7 different backlight key colors plus an 8th cycling “breathing” mode. It basically goes through all 7 colors and fades in and out as it does so.- Some sort of built-in memory, so it remembers the backlight setting and the FN-lock mode you last set. A nice touch so you don’t have to setup the keyboard every time you turn it off/on.- Phone stand does not “click” into place, but the angle is basically infinitely adjustable.Cons, since there are some. At ~$35, its affordable, but at that price you shouldn’t be expecting anything premium:- The on/off switch is a little small and at an angle that’s a little finicky to actuate. This is more something to get used to than an actual issue.- The 4 status lights, BT #1, #2, caps lock, and charging seem to be buried deeper in the keyboard housing so they are harder to see unless dead on. A little annoying, mostly for when I want to confirm if the keyboard is charging/charged, but not an issue outside that.- The overall case quality might leave something to be desired. It’s a handsome but can feel cheap. The stand, for example, is pretty obviously a piece of rectangular metal that is connected with a hinge. I could see it getting bent if it were handled improperly. Of course, one could argue that if it did get damaged, it would be a simple matter of taking off the faux leather and replacing the bent bits with new ones from the hardware store.- The keys require that they be almost fully pressed down before they will register. This might be the biggest sticking point (no pun intended). Combined with the overall smaller keyboard size, this could lead to easier finger fatigue. I have had a few ~2 hours gaming sessions and my left hand did feel a bit more “claw-like” than I’d have liked. It was easy enough to shake off, but I imagine that certain people, my parents who are in their 70s for example, would find the fatigue makes this keyboard unusable for anything longer than writing an email.”,”
