When I opened the package, I thought it seemed a bit small. As soon as I started packing it, I changed my mind about that. It took more clothes than I expected; and then some! A pair of Levis; two changes of T-shirts, shorts and socks; two winter weight long sleeve shirts. A week’s worth of medicine; toiletries; some first-aid supplies. That much just lightly filled the main compartment, with enough room left that I could add a bit more without a struggle. I could have put my anorak in; bit instead I slipped it into the front picket where it is more quickly accessible. Plenty of room was left for chargers for computer and iPhone. They slip into pockets, just the right size–not just tossed in loose.There’s room in those areas for small, medium, and large size notebooks as well.My computer: There is a dedicated pocket for it. I own both a 13 and 15 inch iMac Pro. The 15 inch fits in it just fine, but I prefer to bring my 13 on trips; and of course it fit with room to spare. There is enough padding, and what’s more, the computer compartment is towards the front of the pack, not up against my back. Customer Review: “I bought this for a six week trip I was taking to Europe last year because I didn’t want to check a bag and didn’t want a regular backpack that opens at the top. This was THE best purchase I made for the entire trip!The 40L bag was sturdy, the perfect carry on size, and yes I’m one of those freaks that packed SIX WEEKS (and 17lbs) worth of stuff in it to travel. Obviously the secret is mixing and matching clothing, doing laundry once a week, and not taking stuff you really don’t need. I did not feel like I had to do without anything the whole time though.This bag was easy to transport, and do to the side zippers it opens like a suitcase so you can easily get to all your stuff without having to wade through everything. There are several outside compartments that hold a ton of stuff as well, and straps that you can tighten to make the bag smaller and more compact.I flew on several airlines and it was accepted each time without any issues. Wheeled bags are great and easier on your back sure but several countries in Europe still have cobblestone streets and walkways that make those wheels more hassle than help. Tossing this on my back meant I could just go no matter the terrain.As for wear and tear, as I said it did six weeks in Europe, plus almost a month in New England as my suitcase, and now it’s going to France for two weeks. There is only a dime sized spot of fraying at one corner at this point. That’s it. Handles and zippers look like new!”

Customer Review: “The quality of this backpack is very good, and it’s made out of strong, sturdy canvas that is strongly stitched together, with plenty of padding on the handles and backpack straps, making it very comfortable to carry or to wear as a backpack. It can be worn as a backpack or (hiding the backpack handles in their pocket if you want to) you can also carry it by one of the handles as a small suitcase or carry-on bag. It’s not as deep as what I was expected (the photo says that it’s 11.2 inches deep, but I would says it’s closer to about 9 inches deep, which still works well enough for my purposes, which is mainly to carry my music accessories to gigs in. I’m a pro trumpet player, so needed a nice backpack/bag to put all of my instrument gear in, including trumpet and flugelhorn stands, trumpet mutes, a mute holder, etc. Perhaps if you over-stuff it a lot, the front and back of it might stick out enough to make it look like 11 inches(?) deep, but I still say that 9 inches deep is a more reasonable expectation. I like that there are pockets that you can stick any straps or buckles that you personally don’t need into to hide them. The mesh pocket on the side holds a water bottle well (My Voss 16.9 fl.oz. or 500ml water bottle fits in it just fine.) If you are a really thirsty person, you could stick at least two of these water bottle inside the top front pocket, since it is very deep, extending all the way down to the bottom of the bag. And the shorter, bottom front pocket is perfect for keeping pens and pencils in, and your cell phone too, if you’d like to. There are plenty of good choices for storing a large tablet or a laptop computer, either in a separate zip pocket inside the backpack, or in that deep, top front pocket on the bag. The bag also looks nice, very nice and formal looking (especially the black color bag that I got), so it looks classy to bring to my gigs, even the classical music gigs. I think that this backpack is a very good value, and I highly recommend it for any purpose you see fit.”
